This activity is designed for 3rd of primary. At this age, they recognize the body parts in their first language, and they start to do it in English. They are also starting to write and understand complete texts in English. A digital story format supports their understanding through pictures, repetition, and simple sentences.
CONTENT
They work on science concepts such as organs and functions: the heart pumps blood. They also learn healthy habits such as drinking water or eating healthy food. This is really important, because they learn about their body and how to take care of it.
They obviously learn vocabulary in English, and also grammar structures (I am the heart). Moreover, they practice listening and reading skills. This is important because they acquire language in a natural and dynamic way, not memorizing.
FORMAT
I have decided to make this format, which may seem so simple, becouse they can focus on understanding the content without having many distractions. The fact that the organs are explaining who they are makes the content more dynamic and enjoyable.
PEDAGOGIC JUSTIFICATION
This activity uses a simple and multisensory CLIL approach. The pictures make understanding easy, and they make students remember the concepts better. Short sentences make them keep attentive, and it is easier for them to learn the concepts.
Using StoryJumper makes learning more fun and creative, and students stay motivated. The organs speak in first person, so this helps students imagine that they are speaking, and it is easier to remember their functions.
