Active listening, active minds: a fun ICT task

This activity is designed for fourth of primary students. It consists of a dictation created with Educaplay to review hobby vocabulary.

PEDAGOGICAL JUSTIFICATION

The purpose of this task is to integrate listening in the most fun way possible. For this reason, I decided to create it using the ICT tool Educaplay, as I believe that, although it is not the most entertaining activity, it adds a different element to tit and helps keep students more engaged.

In addition, the activity is clear, concise, and easy to complete. Each student can work at their own and listen to each sentence as many times as they need, which respects individual differences and learning rhythms.

This task simulates a real-life situation in which a person needs to listen to something, such as a phone call or a YouTube video, making the learning experience meaningful.

By requiring a written product after listening, students engage in productive thinking and language output, fostering deeper learning than passive listening alone.

EXTRA ACTIVITY

After doing the listening activity, they can produce a short text that includes:

- 5 hobbies heard in the activity

- 2 new hobbies

- Describe why hobbies are important

This can be meaningful for students, as they practice also writing skills, and it is a way to see if they have understood the content listened in the previous activity.

NOT A SIMPLE ACTIVITY

This activity is not a simple activity, it is a task because it focuses on meaning rather than mechanical practice. Students have to listen to understand real information, using some structures that they previously know, so they have to activate their previous knowledge.

Exploring the human body through digital storytelling

At this age, they recognize the body parts in their first language, and they start to do it in English. They are also starting to write and understand complete texts in English. A digital story format supports their understanding through pictures, repetition, and simple sentences. CONTENT They work on science concepts such as organs and functions: t he heart pumps blood. They also learn healthy habits such as drinking water or eating healthy food. This is really important, because they  learn about their body and how to take care of it.  They obviously learn vocabulary in English, and also grammar structures ( I am the heart). Moreover, they practice list...

Developing writing skills through real-life descriptions

EXPLANATION In this activity students have to do different interactive Edcaplay activities, with the final aim to be able to describe a classmate. This final writing will be made in Educaplay as an "open answer" activity.  STEPS AND ACTIVITIES  They will frst start doing a vocabulary review, matching words with their definition, and they also activate descriptive vocabulary. Afterwards, they will play a game to see examples of how to make a description, and they will do it by filling in the blanks in a paragraph To finish, they will have to make a description of one of his or her classmates and give it to us.  PEDAGOGIC JUSTIFICATION This activity follows a task-based-learning approach. Students use the language to solve games in which they are emotionally engaged, as they are having fun while also learning. They use the language to talk about their classmates in a real context, rather than simply copying something without truly learning. Regarding the objective, ...
